Green Arts Charter

The Green Arts Oxfordshire Network Soft Launch in January 2021 connected over 80 organisations and artists responding to the climate emergency.

They discussed how the collaborative creation of a Green Arts Charter might help us, as a network, to create a more ecological city and county. After months of conversations and a Charter Building workshop, Oxfordshire’s Green Arts Charter was launched in November 2021.

The Charter is a set of 10 action points that can be used as a practical tool. It was written by multiple contributors to outline what we all need to achieve to meet Oxford City Council’s target to be net-zero by 2030.

Sign the Charter to commit to tackling the climate and ecological crisis as part of the Green Arts Oxfordshire Network.

You can sign as an individual, artist or organisation. You don’t have to have an action plan already, as we will support you in working towards one.

Collaboration

1
Share resources, ideas and expertise regarding the environmental impact of our arts programming and practices, and ways of assessing carbon impact of projects.
2
Collaborate with Oxfordshire community groups, particularly environmentally-focused networks.

Community

3
Amplify the voices of the Global Majority and other communities most impacted by environmental change.
4
Increase support for existing and emerging climate justice leaders and activists.
5
Create space for community led environmental conversations.

Production

6
Aspire to source, transport and dispose of materials sustainably and locally where possible, thinking of creative solutions, and factoring this in at the project planning stage.
7
Make sure we are informed about the carbon footprint of an activity or process before we commit to doing it, and implement methods of assessing impact so that carbon positive practices can be embedded from the start.

Organisations

8
Include working time dedicated to addressing the climate emergency in job role descriptions.
9
Coordinate programmes in alignment with national and local climate campaigns.
10
Actively engage youth representatives to increase youth inclusion in environmental decision and policy-making.

Sign the Charter

We, Oxfordshire’s arts and cultural sector, come together in this climate emergency to collectively work towards climate justice and a zero-carbon future.
